
Steve’s photographic life started at the London College of Printing (1978-80) where he earned a BA(Hons) in Visual Communications, specialising in stills photography. After graduating he assisted top advertising photographer Graham Hughes for two years and established Steve Shipman Photography in 1982, specialising in portrait photography.
Steve’s relaxed style and natural ability to bring out the best in people has lead to a wide range of editorial clients,
including BBC Homes and Antiques, FHM, GQ, The Guardian, The Radio Times, Real Homes Magazine, Top Gear Magazine, The Sunday Times Magazine and Womans Journal.
Celebrities who have been infront of Steve’s cameras include David Attenborough, Tony Blair, Jasper Conran, French and Saunders, Leslie Garrett, John Malkovich, Margaret Thatcher, Dustin Hoffman and Jonathon Ross.
In the corporate arena, his clients include Lloyds Insurance, Shoosmith, Associated Newspapers, Barclays Bank, Brit Insurance, Heals, Hiscox Insurance, Marks and Spencer, Tesco and Vodafone. Steve is able to relate easily to chairmen and CEOs to help them to feel comfortable in front of the camera.
Steve has exhibited at the Photographers Association Gallery in London, and at the National Portrait Gallery, where he has several portraits in the Permanent Collection.
